Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 28, 2026
Last updated: October 28, 2026
In short: AbujaCity.com is a free, independent city guide to Abuja, online since 1999. We collect only what you choose to send us: your email to subscribe, and the messages, stories, listings or applications you submit through our forms. We also collect basic usage data through cookies for analytics and advertising. We don't sell your personal data. We use a small number of service providers to run the site (Wix, Google, beehiiv), and we earn commissions through Viator affiliate links. You can ask us at any time to see, correct or delete your data.
We follow Nigeria's Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) as our baseline. Because readers visit from all over the world, this policy also explains your rights under the EU and UK GDPR and US state privacy laws such as California's CCPA/CPRA.
Who runs AbujaCity.com and who is responsible for my data?
AbujaCity.com is run by Citydotcom Ent. AbujaCity.com is the data controller, which means we decide how and why your personal data is used.
- Contact for privacy questions: use our contact form (https://www.abujacity.com/contact-us) and choose or mention "Privacy request". We reply by email.
- We have not appointed a Data Protection Officer.

Why does AbujaCity.com use my data, and on what legal basis?
The NDPA (section 25) and the GDPR (Article 6) both require a lawful basis for each use. Ours are:
- Running, securing and protecting the site from spam and bots (Wix essential cookies, Cloudflare, reCAPTCHA). Legal basis: Legitimate interests in a safe, working site.
- Sending you our newsletter. Legal basis: Consent. Unsubscribe any time using the link in every email.
- Replying to messages, stories, listing, advertising and partnership enquiries. Legal basis: Legitimate interests in responding to you, or steps before a contract if you want to work with us.
- Publishing business listings you submit. Legal basis: Consent, and the business's legitimate interest in being listed.
- Reviewing job applications. Legal basis: Steps before a contract.
- Measuring how the site is used (Google Analytics 4). Legal basis: Consent where the law requires it (e.g. EEA, UK); otherwise legitimate interests.

Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Doing so doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew.
Does AbujaCity.com sell or share my personal data?
We don't sell your personal data, and we've never sold contact lists. We share data only with the service providers below, who process it on our behalf or as independent controllers under their own privacy policies:
- Wix.com. What they do for us: Hosts the site, forms, members area, footer subscribe box, and Wix's own security and performance cookies. Uses Cloudflare and Sentry for security and error monitoring; Their privacy policy: https://www.wix.com/about/privacy.
- Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC / Google Ireland). What they do for us: Site usage statistics; Their privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy and How Google uses data from partner sites (https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites).
- Google AdSense. What they do for us: Shows ads that help fund the site; Their privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
- Google reCAPTCHA. What they do for us: Spam and bot protection on forms; Their privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy.
- beehiiv. What they do for us: Sends our newsletter. Its sign-up form uses Cloudflare and HUMAN Security bot protection; Their privacy policy: https://www.beehiiv.com/privacy.
- Viator (a Tripadvisor company). What they do for us: Affiliate tour bookings, which Viator and the tour operator handle under their own terms; Their privacy policy: Viator's privacy policy, linked at the bottom of viator.com.
- WhatsApp (Meta). What they do for us: Our community group, which you join only if you choose to; Their privacy policy: https://www.whatsapp.com/legal/privacy-policy.
Under California law, letting ad partners use cookies for personalised (cross-context behavioural) advertising can count as "sharing". See your US privacy rights for how to opt out.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it, to protect our rights or users' safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of the site, in which case this policy would still apply.
How does AbujaCity.com make money, and does it affect my privacy?
We earn money from Viator affiliate links and Google AdSense ads. Affiliate links never cost you more. When you click a Viator link, Viator may place its own cookie on viator.com to credit us for a booking made within its 30-day tracking window. Viator handles your booking data, not us. Read our full Affiliate Disclosure (https://www.abujacity.com/disclosure).
Is my data transferred outside Nigeria?
Yes. Our providers (Wix, Google, beehiiv, Viator and Meta) store and process data mainly in the United States and the European Union, and sometimes elsewhere. Under NDPA Part VIII, and GDPR Chapter V for EEA and UK readers, we rely on the protections these providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses, adequacy decisions or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where they participate. When needed, we also rely on the transfer being necessary to give you the service you asked for, such as sending a newsletter you signed up for.
How long does AbujaCity.com keep my data?
These are our default periods:
- Contact, story, advertising and partnership messages. Kept for: 24 months after our last exchange, then deleted.
- Newsletter subscription. Kept for: Until you unsubscribe. We then keep only a suppression record so we don't email you again.
- Business listing submissions. Kept for: While the listing is live, plus 12 months.
- Job applications. Kept for: 12 months after the role is filled, unless you agree to a longer period.
- Member accounts. Kept for: Until you delete the account, or after 24 months of inactivity.
- Google Analytics data. Kept for: 14 months.
- Cookies. Kept for: See our Cookie Policy (https://www.abujacity.com/cookie-policy).
What are my privacy rights?
Under the NDPA (sections 34–38) you have the right to:
- be informed about how your data is used (this policy);
- access a copy of your data;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
- delete your data when we no longer need it or you withdraw consent;
- restrict how we use it;
- object to processing, including direct marketing;
- data portability, getting your data in a common format;
- withdraw consent at any time;
- not be subject to decisions based only on automated processing that significantly affect you. We don't make such decisions.
You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) at https://ndpc.gov.ng.
What are my rights in the EU or UK (GDPR)?
You have the same rights under the EU GDPR and UK GDPR. You can complain to your local data protection authority, or in the UK to the Information Commissioner's Office (https://ico.org.uk). We have not appointed an EU or UK representative.
What are my US state privacy rights (CCPA/CPRA)?
If you live in California or another US state with a privacy law, you can ask us to tell you what personal data we collect and share, and to delete or correct it. You can also opt out of "sale" or "sharing" for targeted advertising. We don't sell personal data for money. To opt out of ad "sharing", use the Cookie Settings link in our footer, or turn on Global Privacy Control in your browser. Where our consent tool supports it, we will treat a GPC signal as an opt-out where the law requires. We won't treat you differently for using these rights. AbujaCity.com may fall below some states' size thresholds, but we offer these rights to everyone anyway.
How do I exercise my rights?
Use our contact form (https://www.abujacity.com/contact-us) and tell us what you'd like. We may ask you to confirm your identity first. We'll reply within 30 days. The service is free unless a request is clearly unfounded or excessive. To stop newsletters, click unsubscribe in any email.
Does AbujaCity.com collect data from children?
No. AbujaCity.com is a general city guide meant for adults, and our forms are not meant for anyone under 18, the age of a child under the NDPA. If you think a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we'll delete it.
How does AbujaCity.com keep my data secure?
The site is served over HTTPS. Forms and accounts run on Wix's secure infrastructure, and our accounts with providers are protected with strong passwords and two-step sign-in where available. Only the AbujaCity.com team can see form submissions. No website is 100% secure. If a breach is likely to put your rights at risk, we'll tell the NDPC within 72 hours and tell you without undue delay, as the NDPA requires.
Does AbujaCity.com link to other websites?
Yes, we link to many other sites, including Viator, abujacity.news, government sites, businesses and our social channels (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X). Their own privacy policies apply once you leave our site.
Will this privacy policy change?
We'll update this page when our tools or the law change, and change the "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, we'll put a notice on the site or tell newsletter subscribers.
