Baliz Schools Trust (BST) is preparing to begin a new school session in September following a successful summer school session and extensive renovation of the buildings and facilities.
BST started in the mid nineties in memory of Mrs Elizabeth Bassey Inok a teacher trainer for Holy Child schools in Lagos. Baliz Schools Trust started as a crèche and with support and encouragement from their parents has grown to include an academy.
Centrally located on Aminu Kano Crescent, Abuja (close to FERMA) Baliz Schools Trust provides a rigorous Nigerian curriculum with teachers with over 35 years experience. Alumni from BST are currently studying for various degrees across the world including Medicine in the United Kingdom and Ukraine, Engineering, Accounting and Architecture.
Education at Baliz Schools Trust goes beyond their excellent academics, BST pupils are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities including Jet's Club, Young Farmer's Club, Classical and traditional music club, French club, Debate and Drama Club, soccer club, Home makers club, taekwondo, swimming and many more. These clubs encourage Baliz Schools Trust pupils attain confidence working individually and in teams, building character and exposing them to other aspects of life.
The pupils of Baliz Schools Trust put together their annual school magazine edited by the Literary and Debate club, GEM magazine.
In the last year Baliz Schools Trust has participated in a variety of events and competitions including programming for NTA, AIT, Aso and Kiss fm and performances at Aso Villa.
Currently BST children are training for a French certificate examination conducted by the French Institute.
The summer school which ends this week was packed full of fun activities including baking, music, taekwondo and refreshers on the core subjects, Mathematics, English and sciences with continuous preparation by the French club.
A visit by the People's Republic of China's Cultural Counsellor Mr Jin Hongyue, to the summer school marked one of their high points. He was kind enough to donate books, movies and documentaries on Chinese culture and traditions and will support the school in setting up a Chinese cultural information centre at the school, culminating in offering communicable Mandarin to Baliz Schools Trust pupils.
Extensive renovation on school buildings included work on classrooms, laboratories, library and the new dedicated nursery garden.
While preparing for a new school year, the children of Baliz Schools Trust will be remembering their friends from disadvantaged backgrounds through the Na'ima :) Foundation. The Na'ima :) Foundation worked with BST early this year in raising over 500 books, school bags, stationery, clothing and food items that were distributed by BST children to their friends at a primary school in Dawaki, FCT.
